(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ncbddd\/hemophilia\/facts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ref<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Types:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Hemophilia A<\/strong>: Deficiency of factor VIII (8)<\/li><li><strong>Hemophilia B<\/strong>: Deficiency of factor IX (9), also known as Christmas disease<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Epidemiology:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>X-linked recessive<\/strong>: Primarily affects males<\/li><li><strong>Female carriers<\/strong>: May have some degree of factor deficiency<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Pathophysiology:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Deficiency in clotting factors leads to <strong>impaired secondary hemostasis<\/strong><\/li><li>Does not affect <strong>platelet plug formation<\/strong> (primary hemostasis)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Clinical Features:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Hemarthrosis<\/strong>: Bleeding into joints, especially knees, ankles, and elbows<\/li><li><strong>Easy bruising<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Prolonged bleeding<\/strong>: After trauma or surgery<\/li><li><strong>Spontaneous bleeding<\/strong>: In severe cases<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Diagnosis:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Prolonged aPTT<\/strong>: Normal PT\/INR<\/li><li><strong>Low factor VIII or IX<\/strong>: Assayed to distinguish between Hemophilia A and B<\/li><li><strong>Normal bleeding time<\/strong>: Because primary hemostasis is intact<\/li><li><strong>Genetic testing<\/strong>: Can identify carriers and affected individuals<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Treatment:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Recombinant factor VIII or IX<\/strong>: Mainstay for Hemophilia A and B respectively<\/li><li><strong>Desmopressin (DDAVP)<\/strong>: Can raise factor VIII levels in mild Hemophilia A<\/li><li><strong>Antifibrinolytics<\/strong>: Such as tranexamic acid for mucosal bleeding<\/li><li><strong>Avoid NSAIDs<\/strong>: Due to bleeding risk<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Prophylaxis:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Regular infusions of clotting factors to prevent bleeding<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Complications:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Hemophilic arthropathy<\/strong>: Chronic joint disease due to recurrent bleeding<\/li><li><strong>Inhibitor
