{"id":1563,"date":"2024-05-01T06:58:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-01T06:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/?p=1563"},"modified":"2024-05-01T06:58:50","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T06:58:50","slug":"horner-syndrome-usmle-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/2024\/05\/01\/horner-syndrome-usmle-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"Horner Syndrome USMLE Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Horner Syndrome USMLE Notes &amp; Mnemonics contains all the high-yield points you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Definition:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong>Horner Syndrome<\/strong>:<\/span> A neurological disorder characterized by a classic triad of ptosis (drooping eyelid), miosis (constricted pupil), and anhidrosis (lack of sweating) on the affected side of the face.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Pathophysiology:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Result of disruption to the sympathetic nerve pathway supplying the eye and face.<\/li><li>Can be caused by a variety of lesions affecting the sympathetic chain at different levels.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Etiology:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Central<\/span> <span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Causes<\/span><\/strong>: Stroke, demyelinating diseases (e.g., multiple sclerosis), brainstem tumors.<\/li><li><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Preganglionic Causes<\/span><\/strong>: Pancoast tumor, trauma to the neck or chest, thoracic aortic aneurysm.<\/li><li><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Postganglionic Causes<\/span><\/strong>: Carotid artery dissection, neck trauma, neck or skull base tumors.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2>Clinical Features:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Ptosis<\/span><\/strong>: Mild drooping of the upper eyelid.
