(<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/36495812\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ref<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>Causes<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Often <strong>unknown<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Supraeruption<\/strong> of a tooth after the loss of an <strong>opposing tooth<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Inflammation<\/strong> from <strong>rarefying or sclerosing osteitis<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Cementum is deposited on the root surface <strong>adjacent to the apex<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Associated with teeth in <strong>hyperocclusion<\/strong> or that have been <strong>fractured<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Occurs in patients with:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Paget\u2019s disease of bone<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Hyperpituitarism<\/strong> (e.g., <strong>gigantism<\/strong> and <strong>acromegaly<\/strong>).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Clinical Features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Asymptomatic<\/strong>: Does <strong>not<\/strong> cause any clinical signs or symptoms.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Imaging Features<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Appears as an <strong>excessive buildup of cementum<\/strong> around all or part of the root.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>Outline<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Usually <strong>smooth<\/strong>.<\/li><li>May appear as an <strong>irregular or bulbous enlargement<\/strong> of the root.<\/li><li>Most evident at the <strong>apical end<\/strong> as a <strong>mildly irregular accumulation<\/strong> of cementum.<\/li><li><strong>Cementum<\/strong> is slightly more <strong>radiolucent than dentin<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Lamina dura and periodontal ligament (PDL) space<\/strong> encompass the extra cementum.<\/li><li>In <strong>Paget\u2019s disease<\/strong>: Hypercementosis is <strong>very exuberant<\/strong> and <strong>irregular in outline<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"700\" src=\"https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration.jpeg\" alt=\"Hypercementosis Radiology Illustration\" class=\"wp-image-1823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration-370x370.jpeg 370w, https:\/\/medinaz.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/\u200eHypercementosis-Radiology-Illustration-45x45.jpeg 45w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Hypercementosis Radiology Illustration<\/span><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>Differential Diagnosis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Dense Bone Island (DBI)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Mature Periapical Osseous Dysplasia<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Small Cementoblastoma<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Severely Dilacerated Root<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Differentiating Characteristics<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Presence of the <strong>periodontal membrane space<\/strong> around the hypercementosis.<\/li><li>Radiopaque structures in the vicinity of the root but with different features.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Management<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>No treatment required<\/strong> for hypercementosis itself.<\/li><li>If associated with a <strong>periapical inflammatory lesion<\/strong>, treatment may be necessary.<\/li><li><strong>Clinical Significance<\/strong>:<ul><li>May cause <strong>difficulty during tooth extraction<\/strong> due to altered root configuration.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"block-c774668d-5816-4992-b052-abb7c5ece545\">Hypercementosis Radiology <strong>Reference:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Oral radiology Principles and Interpretation; White &amp; Pharoah<\/li><li>Essentials of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology; F.
