As we all know that the world has entered into yet another wave of covid-19 pandemic. All the health agencies are constantly working on ways to curb the risk of Covid-19. Recently FDA and CDC recommended 3rd dose of covid-19 vaccine for some immunocompromised people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently, CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people should take an additional dose. This includes people who have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1.Been receiving active cancer treatment<\/strong> for tumors or cancers of the blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Received an organ transplant <\/strong>and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3. Received a stem cell transplant<\/strong> within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4. Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency<\/strong> (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)<\/p>\n\n\n\n 5. Advanced or untreated HIV infection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 6. Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids<\/strong> or other drugs that may suppress your immune response<\/p>\n\n\n\n People who are immunocompromised or those who have undergone solid organ transplantation have a reduced ability to fight infections and other diseases. They are more likely to get severely ill from Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Studies<\/a> indicate some immunocompromised people don\u2019t always build the same level of immunity after vaccination the way non-immunocompromised people do. They may benefit from an additional dose to ensure adequate protection against COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In small studies, fully vaccinated immunocompromised people have accounted for a large proportion of hospitalized \u201cbreakthrough cases<\/a>,\u201d and that suggests immunocompromised people are more likely to transmit the virus to household contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So basis the available information, FDA has recommended administration of third vaccine doses. This may increase protection in this immunocompromised population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n however, people are still advised to maintain physical precautions to help prevent COVID-19.
