It affects the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. This way, it widens the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. Therefore it is used in hypertension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If this continues for a long time, then the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, which might result in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So lowering blood pressure can reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. And thats when amlodipine comes into the picture for the treatment of hypertension, chest pain and other conditions caused by coronary artery disease.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many other drugs, amlodipine too can cause mild to serious side effects.
