Systemic conditions<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some systemic disorders which are associated with RAS<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong>Behcet syndrome<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Multiple system disorder resulting from vasculitis of small and medium- sized vessels and inflammation of epithelium.<\/li><li>Characterized by recurrent oral ulcer, genital ulcer and eye lesions.<\/li><li>RAS is caused by immune complex mediated epithelial cell damage.<\/li><li>Anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCAs) antibody has been detected in most of the patients.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>B.<strong> MAGIC syndrome<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Characterized by mouth and genital ulcers inflamed cartilage.<\/li><li>Patients has clinical features of both Behcet disease and relapsing polychondritis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>C. Crohn disease &amp; Ulcerative colitis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>10% patients have oral mucosal ulcers<\/li><li>RAS is possibly because of inflammation of minor salivary gland.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>D<strong>. Celiac disease<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Auto immune sensitivity to gluten<\/li><li>RAS prevalence\u00a0 in 4 %- 40% of patients<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>E. HIV infection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>RAS occurs more frequently, last longer and cause more painful symptoms<\/li><li>RAS is usually a late finding in AIDs patients CD4+ lymphocytes count &lt; 100 cells\/mm3<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>F. Marshall syndrome\/ PFAPA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>It is described as periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis and cervical adenitis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>G. Cyclic neutropenia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Present in childhood.<\/li><li>RAS during periods when neutrophil count is severely depressed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Nutritional_factors\"><\/span><strong>4. Nutritional factors<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Study says 5% &#8211; 10% of RAS patients have low serum iron, folate, zinc, vitamin B, B2, B6, and B12.<\/li><li>Deficiency of vitamin C and calcium can also precipitate RAS.<\/li><li>Malabsorption syndrome and gluten sensitivity can cause nutritional deficiency which eventually leads to RAS.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Genetic_factors\"><\/span><strong>5. Genetic factors<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Children with 2 RAS positive parents have 90% chances of having RAS.<\/li><li>HLAs (specific) have been identified in RAS patients HLA &#8211; A2, HLA &#8211; B5, HLA-B12, HLA-B44, HLA-B51, HLA-B52, HLA-DR2, HLA-DR7, HLA-DQ<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Allergic_factors\"><\/span><strong>6. Allergic factors<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Allergy has been suspected as a cause of RAS. Hyper sensitivity to certain food substances, oral microbes such as S.Sanguis, an microbial heat shock protein have been suggested as posible causative factors.<\/li><li>One report shows Nickel can cause precipitate RAS<\/li><li>Food items such as milk, cheese, &amp; wheat can cause RAS<\/li><li>Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) &#8211; commonly found in tooth paste might erode the oral mucin layer, exposing the underlying epithelium, thereby making the individual more susceptible to RAS.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Immunologic_factors\"><\/span><strong>7. Immunologic factors<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Different studies show immunologic&nbsp; factors play an important role in RAS such as &#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Cytotoxicity of T- Lymphocytes to oral epithelium<\/li><li>Antibody &#8211; dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity<\/li><li>Defects in lymphocyte sub-populations<\/li><li>Deposition of immune complexes within the oral epithelium<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some studies shows-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Altered CD4+: CD8+ ratio<\/li><li>Increased level of several cytokines (IL-2, IF-8, TNF-2)<\/li><li>Increased level of salivary immunoglobulin A (IgA)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Psychologic_stress\"><\/span><strong>8. Psychologic stress<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Stress and psychological imbalance have been associated with RAS.
