Fever and causative organisms for your exam preparation

These fevers are associated with different geographical locations and have various transmission methods, such as vector-borne, zoonotic, and person-to-person spread.

  • Hemorrhagic fever: Caused by Ebola virus, Dengue virus etc.
  • Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome: Caused by Hantaan virus
  • African hemorrhagic fever: Caused by Marburg & Ebola viruses
  • Brazilian hemorrhagic fever: Caused by Sabia virus
  • Brazilian purpuric fever: Caused by H. aegyptius
  • Q fever: Caused by Coxiella burnetii
  • Oroya fever: Caused by Bartonella bacilliformis
  • Glandular fever: Caused by Infectious mononucleosis
  • Glandular like fever: Caused by Ehrlichia sennetsu
  • Undulant/Malta/Mediterranean fever: Caused by Acute brucellosis
  • Pontiac fever: Caused by Legionella
  • Mediterranean spotted fever (Boutonneuse fever), Indian tick typhus: Caused by R. conorii
  • Jamshedpur fever: Similar to Reye’s syndrome thought to be caused by aflatoxin
  • Familial Mediterranean fever: Caused by Inherited d/s, X-linked R, autoinflammatory
  • Typhoid Fever: Caused by Salmonella typhi.
  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever: Caused by Rickettsia rickettsii.
  • Lassa Fever: Caused by the Lassa virus.
  • Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever: Caused by the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus, a tick-borne virus in the Bunyaviridae family
  • Yellow Fever: Caused by the Yellow fever virus.
  • Dengue Fever: Caused by the Dengue virus.
  • Scarlet Fever: Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Rift Valley Fever: Caused by the Rift Valley fever virus.
  • Chikungunya Fever: Caused by the Chikungunya virus.
  • Leptospirosis: Caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira.
  • Relapsing Fever: Caused by Borrelia spp.
